Create gaps
A more compact pose doesn’t necessarily slim you down. Creating gaps in your pose can fool the eye more effectively.

TECHNIQUE 1

The front arm’s OK, but the rear one has no gap between it and the torso. This is particularly notice-able with long-sleeved wardrobes, so look out.

TECHNIQUE 2

Even with a diagonal pose, flattening your arms against your body makes them look fatter. Keep them a bit away, and it’s a totally different story.

TECHNIQUE 3

If you want a frontal shot, you’ll look a lot skinnier if you create a bit of space between both legs.

Diagonal Poses
Just standing diagonal to the camera won’t work much. Combine it with creating gaps to double the effect.

TECHNIQUE 4

If you aren’t deliberately going frontal, turn your body a bit diagonal to look thinner. Bend your legs a little to accentuate them.

TECHNIQUE 5

Instead of a full-on frontal shot, show off your waistline to make the scene livelier. Great for tighter outfits.

TECHNIQUE 6

Instead of just standing against the wall, bend out from the shoulder blades to make your waist look narrower.
